![]() 12.16.09 Anyone who knows me, knows that I love to ride mountain bikes. One of my all-time favorite riding buds is Kirk Rhinehart. He and his wife, Chandler, started a really cool business in Santa Fe, New Mexico, called SpinDoc. They offer bicycle repairs, parts sales, accessory sales, active wear, tours, training, and indoor cycling classes. Of course I jumped at the chance to design a logo for their mountain/road bike enterprise. |
![]() 8.8.09 It's back to school time again! I've designed a course called Draw to Learn and am contracted with 2 schools in Santa Cruz and 2 schools in Monterey, California. First time students will learn basics skills such as drawing with lines and shapes, composition, perspective, and realistic form. Returning students will be involved in independent projects such as keeping a sketchbook and exploring careers based in drawing. Online and in the classroom, I'd love to be drawing with the students in your school, too! Contact me. |
5.15.09 I just received the first check for work with the Salinas Community School. I guess that makes the contract with the Santa Cruz County of Education official! I'm coaching 20 high school students and having a great time working with Chandi Wood, the teacher at Salinas Community School. Here's our sketch blog. I'll be teaching a summer program there too. The director at Alternative Ed hopes to contract the Scribbles Institute for multiple sites next fall. :) |
1.8.09 I've set up a blog for the Scribbles Institute. It features news and links to a wide range of drawing topics and artists. The blog is for adults who wish to utilize drawing for work, school, and enjoyment. Go to the Scribbles blog. |
1.2.09 Exciting news today! The Scribbles Institute Fax Academy just signed a contract to begin work with the Santa Cruz County of Education! I'll start coaching 24 high school students from Highlands Community School. Check out our sketch blog. The goal is to organize a program that expands to several more schools in the fall. |
8.20.08 The Scribbles Institute Fax Academy is launching a new program for home schools and parents this Fall. We're releasing a new lesson book for teachers and students, too. The Scribbles Institute Web site will feature revised Fax Academy pages. Check the Scribbles Institue Web site for registration info. | ![]() |

6.27.08 I'm very excited about the release of my new book, How to Draw All Sorts of Things! It's the first title published independently by the Scribbles Institute. A compilation of my popular hard-bound library series Doodle Books, this single edition is paper-bound and has 100 pages of easy step-by-step lessons. And there's lots of space to draw on the pages, so it's great for road trips. If you'd like to support my new publishing venture grab a copy, hot off the press!
![]() | 5.15.08 I've been drawing caricature maps of cities for eight years. I signed on with a new client, Fun Guide Maps, to illustrate the city of Temecula, California. I recently completed the design for the Fun Guide logo and illustrations for marketing materials. Production of the final map, which will feature Old Town Temecula and Wine Country, will begin in July. Here's a map of San Juan Capistrano I illustrated for City Keeper Maps. |
3.20.08 I just received copies of the library book, Write a Great Report Without Plagiarizing, published by Enslow, Inc. It's gratifying to see a final printed book that I've worked on, especially when it's a useful, high-quality product. For this book I designed the cover and interior pages. I was also asked to create a fun character that would make the book more user-friendly. I rendered the CopyCat digitally and fit the illustrations with text in the book. As always, its a pleasure to work with Laura Morgan, the editorial director at Enslow. Mary Francis, of the Creative Spark, did a superb job of laying out the book. Here is a page of CopyCat character illustrations. | ![]() |
